I'm telling you about this dream…

I had a dream that we were all on a road trip somewhere. I never quite knew where, but it was just all of us and Scratch in my jeep, and we were roaming across the southwest. At one point there was a thunderstorm while we were on a dirt road, and I realized that the car was empty. Everyone who'd been there with me was gone. At that point I got a message on the radio telling me to go to work, so I had to go fight a fire in the rain. It wouldn't go out at all, and then I woke up before I could go back to find everyone. I remember that even though I was working, I still was thinking about going back to get everyone as soon as I was done. I just could never quench the flames that burned in the rain and I couldn't leave to find my people.

Baccanal 2011

Bacchanal 2011 is coming up soon, so here's the map from last year that includes lots of little bits of info on how to get to the lake, and about the things that will be going on.

Last year we camped in the Western Area of the park for $8 a night. We had a little fire to roast all the food and we also went sailing for a bit of recreation. The roads are mostly in decent shape, but a high ground clearance vehicle is recommended for the last bit.

Getting back to this blog thing

Like so many of these posts, I'm writing to explain why I'm not writing much. After San Francisco, I spent a week in Long Beach with the ASU Sailing Team doing an intensive summer training camp (rhymes with pics to come). I've also been working on the ASU Sailing website, asusailing.org. After getting back from that I've been plunged into some rather intense summer courses, including an art history and alternative photographic processes. Also, I spent a week at and in the Grand Canyon for a couple of friends' wedding on the North Rim. The Gila Monster blew a rear shaft seal outside of Flagstaff, so I got an extra night there on the way up.

ASF/Laser Fleet Demo Day

The other day, the local Laser fleet and the Arizona Sailing Foundation teamed up to demonstrate the Laser sailboat. Winds were higher than forecast at 18-24 mph, with gusts in the upper 20s. Only two boats wound up going out, but a kite boarder was also on hand to add some excitement for the shoreside spectators.







P.S. I'm now using Adobe Lightroom, and it seems to be a pretty cool tool for doing most of what I do with my photography. It is kinda pricey, but so far it's working well for helping me manage a smooth workflow. I still don't know how well it'll work when it comes to managing multiple hard drives of data (that time is coming all too soon), but it's pretty good at the scale I'm at.

I'm still alive!

Hey everybody,
Yes, things are okay. I've been busy, but I have been neglecting all my readers (I'm sorry, Grandma [sheepish grin] ). Scratch and I have been back in Arizona for a couple of weeks, but y'all never knew we left. Well, we did: we went back to the ole ancestral home in 'Burque over winter break.
I'm in Photo 204 now, which is an advanced black and white photo course which meets twice a week. I'm also in Calc 1, German 201, Art 113 and Art History 102. I'm going to be working on building my GPA while also compiling  a solid portfolio to submit for review at the end of the semester to enter the upper level photo program.

I've been shooting a few rolls of 120 with Sputnik, but I want to have them reverse processed to make slides for stereo viewing. There are two options for reversal processing: DR5 in Denver or doing it myself. I'd rather do it myself, in part so I don't pay for services I can do myself (rhymes with miserly college student spirit) and in part to inflate the old ego (rhymes with, "Who do you know who's reversal processing 120 film?").  I know the chemicals needed, but the major chemistry labs don't supply individuals; they only supply corporations. I'm exploring what it would take to incorporate as GB Photographic in AZ, but it's an added expense that I can't rationalize along with the cost of chemistry. DR5 costs a bit per roll, and I need shipping and handling per roll. I don't have a home darkroom, but the labs at ASU are good, if I can provide my own chemistry. The big issue is of course getting said chemistry.

Anyway, that's what's on my mind now. I'll hav some kind of photography up soon, mebbe my final from last semester or maybe something new.
